BIMBERG CHINESE-GERMAN CENTER FOR GREEN PHOTONICS

“Quantum technologies will enable more energy efficient photonic systems for a sustainable society”

Introduction

The “Bimberg Chinese-German Center for Green Photonics” was established in April, 2018 by CIOMP and Professor Dieter Bimberg, who is an academician of the German Academy of Sciences, the US National Academy of Engineering, the Russian and EU Academies of Sciences, and the US National Academy of Inventors. The research and development will be conducted autonomously, in cooperation with other national and international research institutions and in cooperation with industry.

The research directions of the Bimberg Center will focus on quantum devices including

·      high bit rate and energy efficient vertical cavity surface emitting lasers for optical computer interconnects,

·      long-wavelength quantum dot HIBBEE laser technology for next-generation LIDAR,

·      mode-locked quantum dot lasers for future Terab it/sec metropolitan area networks (MAN),

·      including in each case module development and based on own developments of quantum materials

Cooperations

The Bimberg Center cooperates presently with 11 international research groups and companies.
