Shaping the Future of AI Photonics: Prof. Dr. Dieter Bimberg Visits Innolume

Innolume was honored to host Prof. Dr. Dieter Bimberg on December 16 for a technical lecture on energy‑efficient VCSELs integrated with CMOS drivers for future AI datacenter interconnects.
The visit is especially meaningful given Innolume’s origins in the long-standing collaboration between TU Berlin, led by Professor Bimberg, and the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Prof. Zhores Alferov, from which Innolume spun out in 2003. This partnership produced the first QD diode laser in 1994.
Professor Bimberg also shared reflections on the early development of QD lasers and the international collaborations that shaped modern photonics.
